MACD is two things.

1) It is a momentum indicator. In the chart below which I just drew and uploaded for you, I drew arrows to show you where the MACD indicator actually made each of its momentum buy signals over the past 12 months for Level 3.

2) MACD is a longer term trending indicator. In the chart below I drew pink trending arrows on the main chart to demonstrate the upward price trending follow through that happened each time that a solid MACD signal happened over the past 12 months for Level 3.

My above explanation is simplex on purpose. The indicator is very useful and is actually the only three dimensional indicator that I use in my mix. I prefer to teach the use of indicators in steps rather than flooding you with too much information. This will make you a much better trader in the long run.
