And does the hostile dyad of India vs. Pakistan sound familiar - they stand at the edge of nuclear brinksmanship constantly, ready to incite their own form of Armageddon.

I think about 50-100 MM people is the limit for a real social democracy. If it gets bigger than that or if there are huge differences between the richest and poorest, the country may be in trouble due to the disparate requirements of the people - you simply can't build a consensus. The US can be repaired but only if we get fascist oligarchs out of the White House and return the Federal Government to the scale and scope for which it was originally envisioned.
