I never get popups anymore. The program I use that stops them on my machine is part of the Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Plus program, specifically the Ad-Watch feature. I don't believe that this feature is activated on the free Ad-Aware program that they offer. You can download the full program for $27. Or you can buy a Mac like Croc's. Here is the Lavasoft URL if you're interested:

lavasoftusa.com

The $27 was money well spent.

Popups can also come from spyware that's been planted on your machine. I periodically run the main Ad-Aware program. And Spybot S&D (free!)

safer-networking.org

and I have SpywareBlaster installed, which is recommended by Spybot S&D. It's also free

javacoolsoftware.com

My computer is configured so that no cookie ever gets planted on it without my permission. I think I arranged that from "tools" in the IE web browser, although I now use Mozilla's Firefox browser a lot of the time. It all makes for easier websurfing. I can stop by Drudge and never see one stinking ad, lol.
