That is correct. That is why the present law and for at least the last fifty years requires "proper adjustment to retained earnings".

Since RE is part of the capital account an adjustment is made to contemplate your issue.

What that adjustment should be has varied over the years, depending on which accountant you ask. :))

Again, most of the smoke and screaming over the last five years has been by folks who didn't know how options were treated on the books.

Again, the only thing that is significant is the understanding of what the corporation gets in return for the grants. That is the issue.

The only good news, I guess, is that sunshine is brought into the area for the shareholders.
