Malcolm:

It's not hard to see you are from Ontario. Brain power leads to patent office clerks and the general and special theories of relativity, quantum nonlocality and supraluminal communication. Mindlessly following your parent's advice leads to "doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, and other intellectual specialists". With a few notable exceptions, each of these professions is undergoing rapid change as the computer revolution collectivizes the minds of men, just as the industrial revolution collectivized their labour. How many GPs are happy? Most of them work 50+ hours a week for under C$200K a year out of which comes their office expenses, including receptionist/nurse.

I am teaching my kids to think for themselves, urging them to learn Mandarin and advising them that if they want choices when they are 40, they will have top learn what money is, what it can do and how to use it to build freedom for themselves, their family, community etc. Most "intellectual specialists" will never in their lives attain this freedom.
