I think the right wingers are eager to get a U.S. Constitutional ban in place because they can't get the MA case before the SCOTUS.

The only person with standing to appeal the Massachusetts supreme court decision is the AG of MA, and he doesn't seem eager to do so.

Therefore the right wingers have no way to attack the decision; anything they file with the SCOTUS will get tossed out due to lack of standing to pursue the case. Leaving a Constitutional amendment as the only way to strike back.

I think the SCOTUS is in fact eager to hear the case and overturn it (at least 5 of them are), but they can't get around the problem of standing.
