Yet more fictions over on the Feelie's thread.

Ionesco bemoans increasing federalization of crimes. She claims there are 40,000 crimes prosecutable under federal law.

I saw the post and did a mental head scratch, and vowed to do a little fact checking.

Took me a while to get the time to look into this, but Ion (as she's fondly referred to on Feelies) has her numbers off by a factor of 10.

From what I can tell, there are approximately 4,000 federal crimes in the United States Code.
