Password storage

WinXP is the o/s that is giving me this problem ...

I'll go through this as well as I can ... <ggggg>

First visit to website which requires userID and password
(have several of these)

I type in the user ID in the box available
then I type in the password

window jumps up and asks me ==== want Windows to remember this password?
(and also has an UNCHECKED box which requests don't show this message again)

ok ...
things work fine

NOW
I have numerous user IDs and passwords for various websites
AND
from time to time, I've been known to make an error or two <gggg>
AND
when I type in an INCORRECT (for that website) user ID
and enter it with the INCORRECT password and hit enter that, yes I want Windows to save it ....
THEN
the website tells me this is incorrect, which it is ..
AND
then I type in the CORRECT ID and password ...
the Windows box sometimes appears and requests a save, sometimes not
BUT
subsequent entries to the website
WILL ONLY BRING UP THE WRONG USER ID .. the incorrect one and NOT the second entered correct one

my question
How do I get the website(s) to kill the wrong ID

I could do this in Win98, and it seems that I could do it in both WinME and Win2000
but, I sure as the dickens can't do it in WinXP

any help?
