Good luck with those family pictures, cosmicforce! I know your children will treasure the ones of you and them and their older relatives they remember, even vaguely. But if your family is like mine, I have family portraits going back to the 1880's, of my grandparents and their grandparents, old mid-Victorian midwestern elementary school classes, wild great aunts who were very glamorous in their 1930's dresses and yet could take down a deer or a 12-foot fish by themselves. And of course I have the photos of those grisly trophies.

Who is going to cherish and protect those photos when I am gone? My daughter does not remember the soft southern voices of these women, or the delightful way they all smelled, or how they wore lipstick absolutely everywhere, or the way their bodies felt when they hugged me. I could label all of their photos forever, and not yet convey anything that would help her really enjoy them as anything but dusty relics of long, long ago.
