Unless the evidence that Mapes broke the law rises to the level of "clear and convincing", I think CBS should just pay Mapes her severance pay. Whatever it costs, it's going to be cheaper than what happens if they don't.

But maybe rounds are just being fired in the process of negotiation, aka hardball. Threatening someone this way is pretty damned hardball if not true.

Anyway, I would have thought they wanted her to fall on her sword for Rather.
