Alcatel is licensing from Amati and Amati also expects to share in the contract beyond licensing. I'm not exactly sure what form this will take but am basing it on comments made at the annual meeting last December. The reason I don't name the "one other" is because I'm not sure which it'll be. Nortel and Fujitsu have both been named as possible winners, along with Alcatel, and when I was told there was a chance we'd get some work besides Alcatel's, I was never told which of these it might be. Fujitsu has an ADSL agreement with Orckit and Nortel has done alot with Westell, so I'm baffled.

Since Alcatel is having trouble getting their first ADSL system out the door and Westell won't have a DMT solution until CG is ready --- and CAP seems to be stalling --- it's becoming more obvious every day that Amati's technology is in the lead. BT and MCI have both tested Amati's technology so I guess there's no reason why Amati couldn't be named along with the giants. To date, however, none of the networking analysts covering the bids have mentioned them as a candidate.

So, I guess we'll have to wait for word from the company, itself, once the two are one.
