My grandmother's house was cold too. Ten foot ceiling and the heat always rose to the top. I am sure the attic was probably warm as toast, but my grandmother always warned me I could not go up there. But I did think about it a couple of times. I know they had a light up there as once my Grandfather went up there and I peeked up the stairs and then ran when I heard his footsteps coming back to the stairways. He was a tall man and I was so little I never wanted to get on his bad side...no way.
