U.S. Robotics/3COM can honor Diana's memory by not license 56K modems to Rockwell. This sounds bizarre, but please bear with me:

It is very sad to hear of the death of Diana this troubled, but compassionate human being. Diana's great mission for humanity was to teach about horrors of land mines, and work to their complete elimination. We all can pray that her traggedy might lead to some good if her dream for a world without land mines is noticed and acieved.

A strong tool to support this goal is the international boycott now aimed at consumer products from all the companies that make land mines, and this is especially targeting Rockwell right now.

Quote from unicef.org :
"Apart from the demand for mines from combatants, one of the major problems is that dozens of companies around the world, many of them household names, are still content to manufacture and sell these destructive devices. An increasing revulsion at this trade is encouraging a number of organizations to refuse to do business with companies involved in the sale or production of such weapons. Among United Nations organizations, UNICEF has joined the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in supporting such a boycott.

This boycott does have successes- especially Motorola agreed to not sell switches for land mines - speech.csun.edu

Because of Rockwell's land mines, Rockwell was just selected into the "Evil Index", consisting of "12 of the worst publicly traded polluters, corrupters, and all-around malefactors we could think of" - villagevoice.com

Maybe U.S. Robotics/3Com can be a decent company, and respect UNICEF and others boycott, and also honor the memory of Princess Diana, and even more so the memories of all the innocent victims of these horrible weapons, and don't license modems to Rockwell if Rockwell keeps making land mines!

How many U.S. Robotics/3Com investors are willing to lose a few pennies if it helps end land mines?

More aces up the sleeve, eh?

"I believe the target for preparing a draft [in September] is still realizable," said Glen Griffith, director of 56k modem standard development at Rockwell Semiconductor Systems (Newport Beach, Calif.). Even though Rockwell and U.S. Robotics are bitter competitors, Griffith said it would be easier to license a technology through U.S. Robotics than through an independent.

Did the earth move for you, too? <g>

Lets try for a world that when "the earth moves", its for Make Love, Not War!
