Richard, as you probably know many international mutual funds hedge the currencies of the countries into which they are investing. By so doing they insulate the investment from currency flucuations that can devalue their investment faster than the companies in which they are investing can grow. If it is this hedging that is being reported, I think rather than adding risk it is actually reducing risk. What the effect on the currency markets would be in a quick repatriation of funds is beyond me.
