Life span has much more to do with just health care. Although I do not have stats. in handy, I think the life span of the US are drawn down by African Americans, and maybe also by Hispanic Americans and native Americans. Just look at what they eat, one should not be surprised at their lower life expectancy.

As for my personal preference, I like China's system the best. No appointment needed for hospital visit. Anytime when you feel there is a need to, just go to the hospital in the morning to buy a registration number at half of the price of a smallest McDonald homburg - 5 Yuan - to see a regular doctor (for an experienced doctor, the cost is about a smallest homburg - 10 Yuan). There is no need to wait for days. For those who just have a minor cold or non-serious condition, many traditional herbal medicine stores have a free doctor to see anyone and will prescribe some herbal medicine patients can buy in the store. And if it is a cocktail needs to boil, one can pay a minimal fee to have them done in the store (before this service was free, only start to charge in recent years).

And even if here in the US, for a regular HMO, one needs to wait anywhere 2-4 weeks to have a not-so-urgent problem checked. Although one can get a faster appointment if he exaggerates his condition, that is what I tend to do<g>
