I wouldn't be quite so cavalier about it. There is some small chance (I have no idea of how to quantify it) of a catastrophic event. Just because we've dodged some bullets with swine flu and SARS in the past is no reason for dismissing this issue. It's definitely worth keeping an eye on, although I'm not sure if the "lab escapee" angle would ever prove more than a sidebar.
