MrB, re: the National Enquirer's intent "to send a message" -

The loss of Di and the others is terribly saddening.

I wonder precisely what the Enquirer's message is? What is to be learned from this terrible episode relative to press photography and harassment?

Although we have no details of exactly what caused the crash, it sounds likely to me that the driver of the car might have caused of the incident...not the photographers or the press or the motorcycles. He was the one who chose to do 60 in a 30 zone and lose control of the car..

This type of incident is all too likely to give the press, photographers and motorcycles (I'm a Harley rider, so I know a bit about how people can misinterpret things) a bad image.

Intrusive and harassing behavior probably played a role in the incident. So I think it's important to make a distinction between photography itself, and behavior that may or may not be be criminal.

In the past, I've been verbally abused, and once physically attacked, for taking pictures of people who (in retrospect) didn't want their picture taken. I see nothing at all wrong with taking a picuture.

But what one does with the image is another story entirely - and in that regard, I agree, the National Enquirer made a wise decision to not purchase images made by those in pursuit of Di's car.
