hi pat :

i am astonished at some of the posts i have been reading here lately. let me share with the thread my views on some of the issues raised.

first, given that amati (and indeed its competitors) have really not started selling their products yet, concern over short term earnings is at best ignorance and at worst panic mongering.

second, concern over financials is reasonable. however, there seems to be several ways to tide over (potential) short term cash crunch. in fact, given that amati is winning contracts suggests that its customers (and allies) have gone over the scenarios and are satisfied that amati will be around a long time to serve their needs.

third, the most useful discussion lately is the one you helped initiate where folks have been talking of possible buy-out of amati etc. i regard this as an inevitability given the manner in which the large players in the business have been placing their bets for the future. there is only so long that amati can resist a buy-out, and in fact (while seeming counter intuitive) in the long run a buy-out may well serve amati investors best giving the firm financial and marketing clout it needs to become a global leader in bandwidth expansion technologies.

fourth, another discussion that might be useful is to consider a negative scenario where amati only wins 20% of the gte contract (as suggested by some analysts and westell investors). how might such a decision impact amati ?

given that amati has significant global alliances it would seem that gte alone will not make or break amati. but i did sense a little anxiety from you when the westell drama unfolded last week.

regards

shubh
