Jeff summed it up well - If someone insisted you and/or your friends were associated with mob figures, secretly controlled the message boards, were pump and dump artists who laundered money via the Burmese drug trade, were behind car bombings, and threatened his mother... and then sent this stuff to the SEC, DoJ, FBI, FTC, your local police department, the national media, the local media, etc... was writing a book on the subject... enlisted the aid of a DJ on a 50,000 watt Chicago radio station... instigated a couple of lawsuits related to it... bought access to your social security number so he could further investigate you... created a series of paintings to be exhibited around the U.S. that claimed you, your father, and brother were involved in a murder... to name just a few things... would this perhaps meet your definition of "obsessed"?
