Interesting News

I just found out over christmas that my brother-in-law is getting married.
My brother-in-law is Methodist and the person he is marrying is Chaldean.

I had not heard the term before so I looked it up.

Yep, my brother-in-law is marrying a mid-East Catholic and she is from Baghdad Iraq.
She has been in the US for 7 years now.
Her entire family first went to Jordan then later came to the US.
He met here at a grocery store where they both work as managers.
Since there are rules against managerial fratronization right now they have kept their engagement (just announce to the family at Christmas), secret from all their friends and co-workers. BTW, she is now a US citizen.

I asked him what she thought about what was happening in Iraq.
Here is the answer:

Christians are worse off now than when Hussein was in power. Their friends still living in Iraq are afraid to send their kids to school or to do anything else for that matter. Under Hussein there was tolerance for Christian minorities but now they fear for themselves, their jobs and their children. Shiite extremeists are increasingly gaining control making life difficult for everyone else.

There you go folks make of that what you will.
I will offer these thoughts.
We took a secular CONTAINED ruler that we could deal with, spent over $200 billion to remove him, did trillions of dollars worth of damage to their country, only to have the following happen:

1) Iraq is on the verge of a civil war
2) The majority party has no love of the US and is in fact more radical than the leader we knocked off
3) The majority party is supported by our enemy, Iran
4) We have lost over a thousand US live in this "mission accomplished"
5) Increased the risk of terrorism
6) We tortured Iraqis in an attempt to win their hearts and minds
7) We are militarily and economically spending ourselves into the ground
8) We made the lives of Catholics and other Christians in Iraq worse off
9) We lost the respect of much of the world with this fiasco.
