The more things change...the more they stay the same....

Gotta give Bush, et. al. credit...they never give up!

Last week I was relating to my Dad the recent story of the Iraq vet that has his arm blown off and was being held from discharge until he reimbursed the Army for some lost equipment, etc. that had disappeared when his hummer was bombed. My Dad told me about the time he was training for the Sicily invasion in WWII...seems that while the 82nd Airborn was in N. Africa the honchos showed up(Ike himself). They wanted to see real live paratroopers in action. So, despite 30+ mph crosswinds, the troops packed up and did a jump. Many died, many more injured. My Dad said it took him over 100 yards to collapse his chute as he was dragged across the rocky rough terrain in blinding wind/dust etc. He lost his rifle in the process of saving his life. When he returned to base the supply sargent was going to have him court martialed for loosing his rifle. Fortunately the weather cleared and he escaped to participate in the Sicliy invasion before charges could be brought.
