Gosh, I'm cut to the qwik.
Terribly sorry about all the irrationality. I did take logic in college, but flunked. Maybe it's that I've been posting to this group so long that I've already said everything rational I have to say.
Sun talking positively about their own prospects means nothing. Zero. Zilch. They've done precisely that all the way up and all the way down, as has been pointed out dozens of times by a regular poster on this thread (not me) whom you would no doubt consider irrationally biased.
In prior posts, I have frequently compared Sun to Apple, in the sense that in my opinion Sun's only chance for a turnaround is to emulate Apple by successfully introducing compelling products. If they don't, why should their EPS ever go from a string of nonpositive numbers to $0.40?
For this particular company, the burden of proof is on the long investor. There's certainly no discussion on that point. Sun was in the right place at the right time during the bubble and have had a pathetic track record of contraction and mediocrity ever since, combined with near-total management turnover and largely botched semiconductor strategy (when they could have actually gained some ground on Intel, who botched theirs even worse). Much of the super innovation they always brag about somehow tends to take up permanent residence in the pie-in-the sky stage.
Apple turned around when they started getting products that everybody wanted OUT ON THE STREET.
When Sun starts to do likewise, then you should definitely come back and post on this thread with a $.40 EPS number and the word "rational" in the same message.
Until that time, regardless of what the company has "started talking about internally", I steadfastly maintain that a post centering around a 50-year-old science fantasy is every bit as on-topic for this stock as a free-associated business fantasy.
