>>many companies do substitute their own board designs for a Radisys board.<< FYI, Intel recently added a specific area on its web site to make it easier to do this... "The Embedded PC": developer.intel.com
Mark's assertion that Radisys has a monopoly is like saying that Avis has a monopoly on being "Number 2" in the auto-rental business. As you can see, we sorely lack an articulate counter-point-of-view to the bullish sentiment about WIND on this thread. With that in mind, let's discuss the second point in your post #1882 to Allen: >>Point #2: I am unacquainted with anyone actually in the embedded systems industry who believes WIND is "the major player". Aside from yourself and WIND management, can you give some names?<<
The term "embedded systems" can cover a lot of ground, and includes things like embedded PCs that are not real-time. In fact, on this thread we have generally referred to WIND as the dominant RTOS embedded player. Here is what WIND management says in their press releases: " Wind River Systems, Inc. is the leading provider of integrated software development tools for real-time embedded applications in the Internet, telecommunications, data communications, office automation, networking, computer peripherals, medical, automotive, industrial, aerospace and multimedia markets. Through the industry's most comprehensive product line and customer support, Wind River enables customers to develop and reuse application software across a variety of products and platforms, shortening development cycles and improving time-to-market."
Do you disagree with the above statement, and if so, how? What is the extent of your contact in the embedded industry? Who do you/they feel that the dominant real-time player is, and why? |
