That was a fanciful bit of conjecture Jay and of course it would not appealing for Japan/USA to rule China back in the 1950s after the horrors of the 1930s and 1940s.

I was making the point that Japan under the USA, after a horrific war, did a LOT better than China did under Mao, and that if China had also been under the USA's sway, via Japan, it would no doubt have done a LOT better than it has.

You are of course right that if the great majority of China's population didn't want it, it would not happen and I would guess that a vote would not have seen Japan/USA put in charge.

But that begs the question on the other issues. Winning a debate by arguing about an apostrophe isn't very convincing.
