7:34AM CSFB: Texas Instruments to gain as 3G handsets double (TXN, RFMD, SWKS, SLAB) by Madeleine Acey
LONDON (CBS.MW) -- Credit Suisse First Boston semiconductor analysts said Texas Instruments Inc. (TXN) and other chip companies were set to gain from an anticipated doubling in production of third generation (3G) cell phones in 2005. The broker's team cited estimates that predicted handset numbers growing from 67 million units in 2004 to 120 million in 2005. Texas Instruments remained CSFB's recommendation in the sector. The analysts said RF Micro Devices Inc. (RFMD), Skyworks Solutions Inc. (SWKS) and Silicon Laboratories (SLAB) would gain from increased demand for radio technology but would have to fight it out for market share while suffering price erosion for older cell phone technology.

LONDON (CBS.MW) -- CSFB semiconductor analysts said in a 2005 outlook report that chip companies Intel (INTC) and AMD (AMD) face higher execution and yield risk as they move to making chips with dual cores. The broker's team said the companies had an increased chance of an "operational miscue" in the second half of 2005 from product delays because of the more complex production process.
