ceo Raymond presentation 5/04
In fact, the ExxonMobil research program is the largest in our industry. We spend $600 million a year in research centers all over the world. And we do most of it in-house because we think it is essential to our competitiveness.
we look to universities here and abroad for developing and identifying people with the most advanced scientific and technical knowledge. In fact, we are now hiring about 1600 such young people each year worldwide.

In the U.S., we now employ just under 1500 Ph.Ds in the various disciplines we need, and another 500 worldwide.

To put these doctoral numbers in perspective, the Institute of Technology employs about 380 PhDs. The U.S. Academy of Engineers has around 1400 Ph.D. members. So you can see how substantial is the technical resource that we employ in ExxonMobil and that we need to do our job for the public and our shareholders.
