lots of talk about "flight to quality" recently, but then the dow components get hammered and the russell smallcaps make out ok. has a new definition of quality developed? used to be that ibm/mo/mrk/etc were the bastions of quality.

seems that a prediction of "a flight to quality" is a circular notion, as at any point in time, the "quality" stocks will be the stocks in favor at the moment, which of course will be the ones being most bought...

makes me think of this amusing quotation: "i was a contrarian until i realized everyone else was one too."
