My own opinion is that there are way too many Americans for us all to do what selfishly pleases us without hurting almost everyone everywhere else. When he have 8% of the planet's population but emit 25% of its pollution AND are unwilling to help do anything about it, there is no moral rightness to our position. I do not see how 79% of Americans can believe in all the details of Jesus' birth and not have absorbed any of the moral values that he taught. To me it is irrelevant what happened in the past re feudal kingdoms and such. We can see in Iraq that a brutal dictator is not the very worst state of being. Anarchy and American-created terrorism are much worse. And I think at this point in global warming we are beyond appealing to anyone's pleasure center--that is what got us all messed up in the first place. We should now be appealing to everyone's desire to survive as a species, because that is the reality of our current plight.
