So we can't leave. I think Bush was successful in bringing the battle to Al Qaida, but he may have also been successful in getting us pinned down in Iraq. Condi Rice will be key. Does she have a foreign policy view of her own? If her views are different than those held by people at DOD, DOD will not be able to marginalize her as they did Colin Powell. Nevertheless, as Secretary of State, she now has a considerable power base. Let us hope she can make a difference. The fate of civilization is now in the hands of a young black woman.
