what I'm trying to accomplish is the most simple and elegant approach,

I appreciate your objective and won't argue for a more complex approach. Your desire for a binary approach is understandable to me. But I would appreciate an explanation of why you would choose the particular binary approach you chose because that is not understandable to me.

It seems so obvious to me that if one wants to ignore someone, one wants to not have to deal with that individual's posts. I don't see why, part and parcel to that, one would also want to ignore the posts that are addressed to that person. I just don't get it. If someone constantly makes dumb or obnoxious posts, you put him on ignore. Why as part of that would you want to ignore the post of someone else who posted to him simply because he was the last poster or someone who was posting to him to set him straight on the issue being discussed. If I have to do without an ignore feature that is useful to me, it would be helpful to me at least to have an explanation of why the approach chosen is more helpful to most other people. It is counterintuitive to me and I can't devine any possible rationale for it.

So, why did you choose to make "ignore" apply to posts to and from the target rather than just to posts from the target? Please help me get my head around that.
