Good post, Taro. That is exactly correct. The majority of charity in the U.S. comes from the people, not from the gov't and frankly most of us would prefer it that way.

In the U.S., we found out long ago that when you rely on the gov't to allocated and spend money, they do almost everything less efficiently than the private sector. There are a few notable exceptions. However, charity is not one of them. Charity is best left to the individuals who can and should decide how much to give back.

What cracks me up is people like John Fowler bitch and moan about the deficits on the one hand and then bitch and moan that our gov't isn't spending enough on all sorts of other things on the other hand. Then if you call him on it, he calls you names. Very inconsistent and very juvenile.
