Snowshoe, The bet was specifically on whether gold will rise or fall, and very definitely not about relative gains.

By the measures you related, I am content with my 2004 result.

I fear, as I usually do at the start of all new years, that 2005 will be tougher still, worse than the first 10 months of 2004 ;0)

Russell 2k result of +16% must be adjusted for the (in the case of Canadians) the USD devaluation, grossing 9%, and US inflation, netting 5%, and if sold and taxed at 40% rate (40% of 9% translated nominal gain), clearing precisely a 1DotOdd%.

Not grand; not great; Worse than mighty awful.

In the case of Euro denominated investor, gross would be 6%, bet would be 2%, and clearing would be 1.2% ;0/ Whoa!

Chugs, Jay
