About the "outrage patrol" - I can't help it, it just bugs me that the snarky chattering classes are using this tragedy as an opportunity to hawk their political prejudices.
Right now the US vs. UN thing is not just irritating beyond belief, but fascinating. Over in the UK, Blair, who, we should not forget, for all his admirable personal qualities is Labor party leader, is saying "of course the UN should lead the relief effort" -- oddly, the UK hasn't been asked by anybody to even sit at the relief table.
It appears while the chattering ones are prancing about talking about what others are doing, others are actually rolling up their sleeves and doing something.
As far as I can tell, other than the governments which were directly affected, the first on the scene with airplanes full of relief supplies were China, followed shortly afterwards by Australia, and (of all places!) Greece. |
