In the real world, I tend to buy story stocks (not exclusively biotech) and sell too soon (well before the bubble peaks, but also before it blows up). The strategy has worked for me over the years and I've done reasonably well (although nowhere near as well as Rick). So, I'm curious to see how I'll do with a "buy and hold"program. Hopefully, I won't be too embarrassed. Anyway, here are my picks: 1) Alnylam (ALNY ): Excitement about RNAi will significantly increase. (1,740.29 shares at $7.47) 2) Arqule (ARQL): Plenty of cash and impressive collaborators. (2,245.25 shares at $5.79) 3) Curis (CRIS): I'm betting someone with a taste for Hedgehogs will gobble it up at a big premium. (2,681.99 shares $5.22) 4) Crucell (CRXL): Many licensees of its PER.C6 technology, which should be the future of vaccine production. (944.08 shares at $13.77) 5) Genta (GNTA): Will finally get some good luck. (7,386.36 shares at $1.76) 6) Cadus (KDUS): My close reading of the Kabbala indicates 2005 will be the year as Icahn has five letters in his name. (8,496.73 shares at $1.53) 7) Pluristem (PLRS): My penny stock stem cell play (If it doesn't pass muster, let me know and I'll pick another stock). They've licensed a stem cell expansion technology from the Weizmann Institute of Science and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. Could be a scam but the possible upside seems worth the risk. (39,024.39 shares at $.205) 8) Stemcells (STEM): My favorite stem cell play. Although it's already had a big run and I've been selling on the rise, their neural stem cell IP and Prop. 71-related news should propel the stock even higher next year. (3,073.29 shares at $4.23) My dollar allocations are $8,000 to PLRS, $14,000 to CRIS and $13,000 to the other six stocks. My designated charity is The San Carlos Foundation: sancarlos.nonprofitoffice.com My pledge is $200 to the winner's charity. I currently have real world positions in all my picks except ALNY, although in very different allocations than the charity portfolio. And my real world portfolio will almost certainly change substantially during the year. I'll just post my picks here since the contest site doesn't handle penny stocks and (unless it's rejected) I have one in my portfolio (and may have a few more by year-end). Happy New Year to all! |
