U.S. DEFENSE DEPARTMENT TO FUND DEVELOPMENT OF ANTENNA
INTEGRAL TECHNOLOGIES, INC. (ITI), (NASD.OTC.BB:ITKG), today announces that the Combatant Craft Department (CCD), Special Projects division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Det. Norfolk, a division of the U.S. Defense Department located in Suffolk VA, has committed funding to the development of a high frequency (HF) and a Very High Frequency (VHF) Contrawound Toroidal Helical Antenna (CTHA). The development from a prototype developed by West Virginia University (WVU) will be completed in conjunction with Emergent Technologies Corp. (ETC), a 76% subsidiary of Integral Technologies, Inc. The development contract has been secured by ETC and WVU will assist in the development of the CTHA for the two applications.
Prototypes of both the HF and VHF CTHAs have successfully undergone exhaustive testing by the CCD. Dr. James Smith, Director of the Center for Industrial Research Applications at WVU, and co-inventor of the CTHA says "From an academic perspective, testing by WVU, ETC and the CCD has more than borne out our expectations for the CTHA. Ranked as a Research 1 University, WVU will continue to provide support in the development of the antenna". As the patent holder, West Virginia University owns all proprietary rights to both the HF and the VHF CTHAs. Through its subsidiary Emergent Technologies Corp., Integral Technologies, Inc. holds an exclusive license from the University on all military applications of the CTHA, subject to a net profits royalty.
The CCD anticipates that development of the HF and VHF CTHAs will commence at the beginning of its next government fiscal year, in the late fall of 1997, and be completed in the second quarter. The CCD plans to develop the CTHAs initially for use in Amphibious Armored Assault Vehicles (AAAV) and combatant craft, with a longer-term view towards other applications.
According to Jack Parsons, President of Emergent Technologies, "We expect the CCD's funding commitment to develop the CTHA for these two applications to provide further validation of the technology and ultimately lead to multiple installations of the CTHA within the US Department of Defense."
The CCD further confirmed that both the HF and VHF CTHAs have been selected for award of the development contract, and that it anticipates that manufacturing contracts will be awarded to Emergent Technologies Corp.
Integral Technologies, Inc. also holds licenses from West Virginia University on three other technologies: (a) Colorvision Technology- software technology allowing for color to be finitely identified in a three dimensional realm; (b) Secure Document Authentication Technology- utilizing the two dimensional Colorvision technology this provides for the identification of counterfeit currency, checks, and other secure documents such as passports, drivers' licenses etc.; and (c) Plasma Ignition System- a revolutionary spark ignition system which will burn a significantly higher percentage of fuel in the combustion chamber resulting in much higher fuel efficiency and a dramatic reduction of emissions. Commercial applications have been identified for these technologies and Integral is engaged in continuing negotiations with potential users from Fortune 500 companies, for prototype development.
