Hi Ray - Well, I am pretty surprised by some of your recent posts...

Re: I repeat, stop blaming the Chinese for anti-Chinese racism.
OK. And then who do we "blame" the violence on? The state, as the above article indicates? And should I close my eyes to the historical fact that the Chinese willingly played along with the Dutch imperialists and acted as "middlemen" in the exploitation of Indonesia by the Dutch before Indonesian independence?

Well, try blaming the CIA. Really.
CIA, with help from Germany and UK intelligence, engineer both a coup and massacre in 1965. Massacre was mostly Chinesse, but also left wingers and moderates. One of the goals of the operation was to break China - Indonesian cooperation. It succeeded.
Over the past ten years, the documentation for these events has gotten much better, and almost all speculation has been replaced with pretty well documneted and sourced evidence, some of it first person.
A bit long and academic, but a good place to start would be this-
Peter Dale Scott, who has a pretty solid reputation as a researcher, on CIA role in massacre and coup -
namebase.org
Short article with direct quotes from Colby comparing Indonesia to Phoenix program, quotes from US principals organizers, and a follow up on the communications and SIGINT support -
namebase.org
Or just hit Google with 3 words - CIA indonesia massacre
There is a certain irony that I am telling Ray that "it's all the CIA's fault" ;-)
