Japan, a country half our size, is up to a half billion.

fully in line with my previous post on this matter.
The Japanese administration running a society like Europe where a major part of the GNP is confiscated and managed by the government and not left in the hands of and handled by the private sector like in the US should indeed be up front of the beneficiary powers.

But the US has no problem coming up with the money to invade other nations. Your position appears to be self serving.......providing a reasonable if not questionable explanation at any particular moment for any particular scenario. We are too socialistic when it comes to helping our poor but we have enough to spend billions for defense but then, we are too capitalistic to be able to come up with the money to help other nations like Japan is prepared to do. One size fits all. Its seems there is no end to your ability to explain and excuse the bad behavior of the US.

Quite natural only.

Who is in command of the major part of the GNP should pledge more than the other sector of any nation.

Japan indeed is a good example here and we should compare their 500 Million to the 20 Million of Germany rather than wasting our time on bashing the US or rather GW personally.

I see. You're latest theory is that Japan is less capitalistic and therefore, has more money to blow on humanitarian aid. But then you bring up Germany.......isn't Germany even more socialistic than Japan, and therefore, should have even more discretionary income to burn on the tsunami victims? The fact that they are contributing much less kind of messes up your theory? Oh wait, I have a good explanation for the fatal flaw in your thinking..........the reason Germany isn't giving more is because its using its discretionary income for the upgrade of the former GDR. That's why they can't give more. See.....now your theory makes sense in all three situations. And none of us have to feel bad over the US's niggardly contribution which turns out has been typical of the US for decades.

In another words, another American fable has been blown. We are not the generous people our media and gov't say we are. It turns out we are better at getting other countries to ante up rather than contributing ourselves.

And mindmeld wonders why some of us are having a hard time coming up with American positives. Every time I think of one it turns out not to be so true. Quelle domage! What's a citizen to think?
