"History shows that not a country in the world has been able to eradicate the crop manually,"

As I mentioned last week, the seeds of papaver somniferum (opium poppies) are an important element of several cuisines. Every bakery in America sells poppy seed bagels and poppy seed rolls, and those are all from papaver somniferum. Sold all over the world.

Beautiful flowers. I was looking at a book of Monet paintings last night, and there was at least one of a poppy field. Gorgeous red flowers especially in full sun. You can buy the seeds many places. Many garden books and magazines, e.g., Martha Stewart, will tell you that it's not illegal to grow them, but it is. They're on Schedule 2 in the federal drug schedules.

However, it is not illegal to possess or eat the seeds, which will not make you high. They will cause a positive on a drug screen, apparently that is NOT an old wive's tale.
