Thanks very much, that is good information.

I know that the few times I have wanted to short a BB stock, there are never any shares available. I just attributed that to the low trading float or the fact that the issues are thinly traded or something, I never got any kind of explanation. Nobody ever told me it was illegal to short those stocks.

I know that MMs and specialists always have an advantage on the short side. Partly, this is because the uptick rule does not apply to them. Partly, it is because it is sometimes rather easy to incite panic in traders by rapidly walking a stock down that the MM is making market in. It is a little known fact that many market makers/specialists/professional traders make most of their trading profits on the short side.
