No, I don't buy that one either. The root of the German problems goes back to the late 70s. Sure Schroder and others - especially the liberals as a matter of fact - like using this lousy excuse. The fact is that they, Kohl and Schroder alike, strangled the motor of the German economy, the private sector, by hiking the taxation from <35% of the GNP back in the early 70s to aro 60% by the early 90s. For the purpose of feeding their extensive welfare system not limited to but including extremely generous unemployment compensation programs.
This was before Reagan and Laffer...

I don't know who Laffer is but Reagan was in place starting in 1980.

But again, this is a great topic of another discussion.

Hey, the Italians have lived with the same problem, their Mezzagiorno project keeping their idle South over waters for 50 years now.

Hmmmm.........many billions of Euros have been sunk into the GDR. I know because my West German friends complain about it.

And while doing so they have moved on from Banana Republic levels to way ahead of German economy in structure and development.

LOL. Could your clearly biased assessment have anything to to do with the fact that Schroder is liberal and Berlusconi is a rightie?
