Gary, I mostly play covered calls on stocks between 4 and 7 dollars on margin. I have a continually changing list of stocks in this range that have option plays. I do very little research. I ask my broker usually a few questions before I decide each month which one I will choose (the questions are usually based on recent press releases or earnings reports). The third wednesday of every month I go through this list for the one or two month strike prices and determine which ones have the highest premiums, which ones have the highest rate of return if I get called out, and which ones I'm likely to get called out of at a higher price than I buy in at. Sometimes I do good, and other times (like right now) I have to do more than one round of premiums because the stock drops and I have to pay back my margin. Pretty whacky huh?! I've just recently started putting the money I make on some premiums into some long term stuff. In fact UMSI is my first long term play and I think it's gonna do great. Every now and then I get a little shaky over the BB thing since I've never bought a BB stock before and it's a whole different jungle. I think ABTX will be my next long term play. I think I will be more at ease with it since it will be less of a roller coaster ride. Broker says ABTX is being looked at by brokerage houses for growth stock mutual funds - sounds pretty good to me. Currently waiting for second time around to get called out of THDO at $5 and NM at $7.5 and looks like I might have to do a third round. Strange investor, hraka p.s. also thinkin about buying 200 shares of OVIS this week since verses the payoff (if the cartel is successful) I can afford to blow $300 dollars.
