I think the good old USA will come through fairly well in the end, government, corps. and individuals. The only fault I see is that some damn seismologist could have placed a few more phone calls in the first few hours and possible have saved a lot of lives. But that would have required thinking...

Three reasons......initial reports indicated the quake was in the 6.0 category and not a 9.0 level which is a huge difference. Not all underwater quakes result in life threatening tsunamis. Thirdly, tsunamis are virtually nonexistant in the Indian Ocean are where this one hit.
