"Availability may be limited, especially during peak times."
Copy from a glossy AOL mailing received this weekend, enclosing the inevitable disk and offering 50 free hours if I will try AOL again -- last time I cancelled before paying a penny. This was one of two AOL disks I got on the same day, the other being attached to a free Computer User monthly -- a publication chock full of ads for cheaper and/or less congested ISPs, many promising X2 or 56K service now or shortly. AOL's ad says "faster" but the smaller print just says "up to" 33,600, with no mention of 56K. What reader of a computer publication is going to sign onto AOL? Does AOL want me to sign up for another 30-day trial and cancel before paying anything again, just so I can be included in statistics? This marketing strikes me as expensive, unpersuasive and almost desperate; I'm staying short. -- Shoe
