Well, as I recall there was big controversy about how much ranchers should pay to graze their cattle. So I think it is a more complicated issue than your post would indicate. I have trouble imagining the people in Washington DC coming out to the west and yanking all the cattle off the land by force.

My personal interest is in reducing cattle grazing to close to zero as quickly as we can, because I hope everyone will turn vegetarian eventually. Being a realist, I know that will take awhile, though. In the meantime, I found this website that argues that cattle grazing degrades the land and the environment. So you can see there are several issues here, and at least two sides to each one!
