Alvarion has again moved down to a support level near 13. It bounced off that level reached yesterday on rumors that they will announce a major collaboration with AT&T or IBM at or to coincide with the WCA trade symposium on January 12.

I think that Alvarion is very well positioned to see numerous collaborations take shape over the next year and beyond. AT&T, IBM, HP and others have few conflicts in their business objectives as they do with companies such as Siemens and Alcatel - companies that increasingly see the convergence between the IT and communications worlds at drawing them into competition with what have traditionally been viewed at IT or telecommunications service companies. AT&T and other major telecommunications systems operators are increasingly being driven towards a service model rather than relying on ownership of hard networking assets. This is part of a mega trend that is brought about due to the convergence, freeing up of spectrum and ability to do 'multi-mode' and seamless roaming, and proliferation of IP standards based communications. IT and communications worlds are becoming increasingly indistinguishable. And that causes a clash between these groups of companies. Alvarion, on the other hand, has no ambitions to become IBM or AT&T and has few product or services conflicts. To the contrary, Alvarion has the enterprise scale, geographic reach and product depth to be a best of breed partner to the IT and communications services/systems providers.

We shall see several marriages between Alvarion and companies such as AT&T, HP and IBM imo.
