Al, re: As I've described it, the case for privatization is a mix of strange and inconsistent budget doctrines, bad economics, dubious political economy, and science fiction. Krugman of course makes sense on the SS issue. But the Admin will yell and scream that the sky is falling, and get people to buy into any "solution", even if it makes no sense whatsoever. Sort of like terrorism --- wmd's --- Iraq... that sort of logic. People will buy it. I wonder if they will institute a color code alert system for the health of Social Security. (And BTW, what happened to the terrorism alert system since the election?) John
