I agree with your interpretation of the rules, but think that, in the future the words

Significant unanticipated one-time charges will be excluded from the respective company numbers used to calculate the contest results. See the guidance page for more information. In short, if a positive or negative charge of $0.01 EPS or more is previously unguided AND specifically mentioned in the company's earnings release, then it will be excluded from the EPS category results.

...should be replaced by

One time charges (gains), anticipated or unanticipated, specifically mentioned in the company's earnings release, shall be excluded from the company numbers used to calculate the contest results, but only if, for each charge (gain),
1. It is shown as a line item in the earnings release
2. The release contains a calculation of earnings per share that exludes the item.


This makes our rules comparable to what the analysts do (I think!!) and we don't need any "special" contest EPS, other than 0.001 accuracy.
