Sound Politics - Jan. 11: A critical day for democracy

Next Tuesday, January 11 is a critical day in the fight for democracy and to prevent a coup d'etat in this state. That is the day the legislature is scheduled to vote on ratifying the election. Governor-pretend Fraudoire is swanking around and preparing for her coronation as if her margin of votes from felons, double-voting meth addicts and people that don't exist is akin to a popular mandate. Her fellow coup-plotters in the Democrat-controlled legislature are following her in this mockery of democracy -- (Demockeracy!). We must do what we can to pressure the legislature to halt this farce.

It's a tough battle because the Democrats are in a majority, but here is what you can do:

1) Call the legislative hotline at 800-562-6000 and ask your senator and representatives to vote against ratification.

2) Attend the Revote Rally outside the Legislature in Olympia on January 11 starting at 10:30am

3) It's fair to assume that Democrats and Republicans from safe districts will vote strictly along party lines. I imagine that the voters with the most leverage are those who live in a swing district that voted for Rossi but that also sent Democrats to the legislature. It might still be a longshot to get a staunch Democrat from a Dino district to actually represent their constituents, but it's worth a try. For example, here in King County, Dino Rossi won in the following districts that has at least one Democratic legislator:
District Location Rossi's
Percentage Democratic
Legislators
30th Federal Way, Milton,
Algona and Pacific
51.2%
Rep. Mark Miloscia
Sen. Tracey Eide
41st Bellevue, Mercer Island, Newcastle,
west Issaquah and northeast Renton
50.7%
Rep. Judy Clibborn
Sen.-elect Brian Weinstein
45th parts of Kirkland and Woodinville;
Redmond, Duvall, Carnation and the
Upper Snoqualmie Valley
54.4%
Rep.-elect Larry Springer
47th part of southeast King County from
the Renton Highlands to Kent to
Black Diamond
54.2%
Rep. Geoff Simpson
48th parts of Bellevue, Kirkland,
Redmond, and all of Medina,
Clyde Hill, Yarrow Point and Hunts Point
51.3%
Rep. Ross Hunter
If you live in one of these districts (and if you're not sure, you can find your district here), call your legislator and let them know how important this is. It's not just a golf game, it's about whether our elections are decided by voters or by fraud and bureaucratic incompetence. Let them know that ratifying Gregoire's "victory" would disenfranchise you and the majority of your fellow constituents. Remind them that most Washingtonians don't accept Gregoire's "victory" and want a revote. Be unfailingly polite and frame your argument in a positive fashion, but also be sure to put the fear of God into your Democratic legislator that ratifying Gregoire's bogus "victory" would be a good way to destroy his or her political career.

[I only have the legislative district numbers for King County. If readers can point me to the other Democrat legislators from Dino districts who might be vulnerable to constituent pressure, please let me know and I'll add them to the list above] Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at January 05, 2005 12:02 AM
