The three Q documents in the directory slacker listed for those of you who may be interested are the ones with the last numbers 12, 36, and 37. They require zip to open. Here's the directory again:

I don't pretend to understand what they say or what they mean. However, I suspect that some information might be distilled that hints at what Q sees for the future.
In the abstract, this is what is said about document 37 [go to p. 39 of the document] Naturally, tyhe CDMA aspect of things is, ah, not denigrated while OFDM is not, ah, discarded. Lots of games are going to be played, this time with players who have learned lessons from the past:

As a conclusion, we suggest to introduce a more flexible downlink configuration in the UTRAN platform. Specifically, we propose to consider a multicarrier CDMA downlink structure, which, due to its scalability and compatibility, appears particularly attractive.
Discussion
It had been presented in a previous paper that there are statistical gains in the use of a broad carrier instead of a multicarrier. Serge noted that that paper dealt with TDD, and explained that the intention of this proposal is to be able to use the new available bandwidth as fast and easily as possible, and not to achieve the best possible efficiency; this is to be looked at a later stage.
Serge acknowledged that this is a first step and he didn’t discard OFDM or any other enhancement for the unicast at a later stage. |
