Phew! Been gone a couple of days. Just got around to reading this thread again. I must admit, Bill, you're prolific. This begs a simple question, why?

You don't appear to know enough about Apple's current situation or products to be an investor, long or short. I suppose you may have just rolled the dice and sold AAPL short. Anyway, your harping on "open systems" and "upgradeability" is a bit tedious I must say.

You seem fascinated and oddly comforted by the chaos that reigns in the "plug and pray" PC universe. Are you a consultant or IS manager? Do you derive part of your living sorting through all that chaos? Do you really think regular readers of this thread view the peculiar lack of standards in the PC world as a sign of strength as you seem to do?

A good part of Apple's current problem is cracking the nearly impenetrable wall of consultants and IS managers who have a vested interest in keeping the system confusing. They all make a good living sorting through the mess and are unlikely to recommend buying a Mac system that is easy to maintain and costs less to run than a PC network. No matter the businesses they "support" would usually benefit financially. I don't know whether or not you're one of these, but you certainly sound like one.

Yesterday, you waxed eloquent, again, on the upgradeability issue. I have no idea why you persist in the wrong-headed notion that PCs are more upgradeable than the Mac. This is well-plowed ground on this board. What I don't understand is what you don't understand. Are you trying to sell us PCs? Are you trying to justify something to yourself? Where, exactly, do you think you are going with this issue? I have news for you, this is a loser issue in the Mac vs PC debate_if you're using it as a rationale to buy a PC rather than a Mac.

All of which brings me back to my original question, what are you trying to accomplish on this thread? Seems to me you'd be a lot happier chatting on the Compaq, Dell or IBM threads.

Bob
